Make scale tangible
A fact becomes a lived reference point: the distance already travelled, the milestone under your feet and the tiny fraction still ahead.
We can say “13.8 billion years,” “five trillion kilometres” or “the whole history of life”—but words alone rarely give those scales shape. Time Trek uses distance, movement and story to make them physically understandable.
Stretch an immense timeline or distance across a real route and its proportions become visible. Long silences feel long. Bursts of change feel sudden. Humanity’s late arrival becomes impossible to miss.
A fact becomes a lived reference point: the distance already travelled, the milestone under your feet and the tiny fraction still ahead.
A walk becomes more compelling when each kilometre carries narrative weight and the next discovery must be genuinely reached.
Clear storytelling opens the door; visible sources, uncertainty and deeper modes keep the science honest.
The original Time Trek was a 13.7 km nature and hiking trail through the history of the Universe and Earth. A multidisciplinary team including Kirsi Lehto, Harry J. Lehto and their collaborators used a beautifully direct scale: one kilometre for one billion years and one metre for one million years.
The project connected astronomy, physics, geology and biology into one physical experience. It demonstrated how walking through the correct proportions can reveal causal and temporal relationships that are extraordinarily difficult to grasp on a page.
The Time Trek app is an independent project inspired by that educational foundation. It extends the idea with GPS, adaptable routes, live milestones, read-aloud stories, multiple audience modes and journeys through time, space, hidden worlds and real expeditions.

The first experiences focus on the Universe and Earth, but the platform is designed for a much wider library of journeys and collaborators.
Not every person needs the same explanation. The underlying science stays consistent while its language and depth adapt.
Time Trek can turn many kinds of scale and route into discovery.
